Evaluation Of 'Lucid'

Final Cut Of 'Lucid'

This is the final cut of our opening to 'Lucid'. Again, as previously mentioned the lighting in the shots is not as originally edited. However, it displays many other elements that we had to overcome when making the film; sound, continuity, framing, music/audio, etc.

Clip Demonstrating Contribution/Skill In Filming

This shot, as mentioned previously in my last post, was effected by the screen used in editing, and actually was edited much darker. However I have taken it to display my contribution to filming the opening, particularly looking at framing. I like how this shot displays what's happening over the shoulder of the antagonist, yet still shows a proportion of his face. It also displays clearly the exit of the other character, continuing the continuity of the shots.

Clip Demonstrating Contribution/Skill In Editing

These three shots run continuously together one after the other towards the end of the film opening. The problem we faced was that lights only flickered on the first and third shot. So, in editing, I managed to insert a strobe to the second clip. By changing the times the strobe was present and the pace of which it turned on and off I could give the illusion that lights were flickering.
After rendering the film however, we noticed that the screens used in editing made the footage appear darker, this has effected our final outcome as on normal screens the footage still looks fairly light.

Analysis Of Audience Feedback

During our test screening of 'Lucid' we gave each person a questionnaire to fill in so we could carry out analysis in order to improve the final cut. The questions were:

1. Do you enjoy watching films?
2. What is your favourite genre?
3. What is your first impression of the opening?
4. Would you go to see this film in the cinema?
5. Is the plot clear so far?
6. Do you think the setting was appropriate for the film?
7. What did you think of the music used?
8. Does the editing make it flow smoothly?
9. What age group do you think it's for?

These were the results we got:

One Of My Key Shots So Far....

This is one of the shots I filmed that I am most pleased with so far. It involves an extreme close-up on the main characters face to capture her shock at this point in the story.
The shot will probably have to be edited further at a later stage to adjust things such as lightng, and of course maybe employing the element of sound. However, I am pleased with this shot as I managed to frame the face close enough not to include any background. This was extremely important as the location I used to film this is not the environment the main character is supposidly in at this point in the opening.
I hope, once the shot is edited and cut appropriately it shall further add to the intensity of the project.

Analysis Of Audience Feedback/ Prep Work

Lucid's Marketing:

Primary target audience: 15-25 year old males
Secondary target audience: 15-25 year old females

Will heavily rely on social technologies, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc. These are popular in the age group of our target audiences and will also allow us to establish groups/pages/profiles specifically tailored to advertise and promote the film.

Why will the film appeal to the target audience?
Mainly, because we are using youths in our picture. This will attract a younger audience as it will give them something to relate to. Examples of this working would be in popular thriller movies such as 'Scream' and 'A Nightmare On Elm Street (original and 2010 remake)'. Both of these movies feature teens as the main characters and as a result both of the production's revenues were largely made up of teens/young adults.

Because of our predetermined idea of what 'Lucid' will be compromised of, we will also be trying to attract audiences such as the 'Arthouse viewer' (Inception's targeted audience).

Locations we will use for our setting:
This video shows some of the key locations we're going to use in our sequence, the corridor being the main focus of which. Other locations may also be used to comlete the final opening. Obviously, we are being opportunistic, working with what locations we have, however, having said this, the location we're using does hold extreme potential:

Storyboard shots:

Here are two shots from our storyboard that I consider to be key to the opening:
