Prelim Task: 'Screamer'

‘Screamer’ Evaluation

This project began as usual, with a storyboard. I planned out what would happen in the sequence; timings; props and camera angles. This prepared me with all the information I needed to go and film my sequence. The storyboard that was created is of the ‘horror’ genre, but contains some comic potential. We tried to include several camera angles and techniques (match on action being one of the techniques), to make the film seem more professional. This is actually the element of the film I think worked best (match on action when the female character enters the door).

Once I had completed acting for another group, I could continue to film my own footage. Using the storyboard as a guide, we filmed all the shots we needed to complete ‘Screamer’. From here we could upload the shots to the computer, and start to edit the sequence. Using the Adobe Elements Photoshop 4 programme, we edited all of the shots to run as a continuous sequence. Just some fine tuning was required now to complete the clip.

Making this helped me learn more about direction and camera work when it comes to filming something. It also improved my knowledge on editing film, giving me more experience with cutting and changing audio in the footage.

I feel the continuity editing went well and I am quite pleased with the outcome. Although we did have a lot of problems making the film; first the camera in our group not working correctly, resulting in a couple of hours lost from our time frames, and then a problem on the computer, causing work to be lost. Apart from this though, time was used affectively, and I feel the product came together at the end.

If I was to do the project again I would try and be more prepared. Making sure I had enough time to plan and complete efficiently. I would probably have also included a couple more frames on my storyboard, to enrich the final cut of the sequence.

To conclude, I am pleased with what has been achieved and I feel I worked to the best of my ability. I enjoyed making the sequence, especially filming and editing. Overall, a successful media experience.
